Why do Catholics consider Mary to be their spiritual mother? One of the reasons Catholics consider Mary to be their spiritual mother (and the spiritual mother of all Christians) is indicated as follows: Romans 8:15; Gal. 3:26, 4:4-5 and other passages refer to Christians as "sons" or "children of God". If we are children of God and Jesus is the Son of God (Luke 1:35; Mt. 16:16), then Jesus is our brother (Heb. 2:11, 17). Since Jesus is our brother, His Father is our Father (God: Mt. 6:9; Luke 11:2; John 20:17) and His mother is our mother (Mary: Jn. 19:26-27).
